Case Study 2:
The C.D.M Coordinator Role
The Site
A well-known major High Street clothing retailer needed to completely reconfigure one of its major distribution warehouses on Merseyside.
The Problem.
The project involved hanging-garment conveyor systems, pallet racking, sprinkler systems, renewal of high-bay lighting, installation of a mezzanine floor, high-level in-bound & out-bound dock levellers and doors. The work needed to be undertaken to tight timescales, in what had to remain a busy operational warehouse during the whole of the project.
The Solution.
The clients appointed Diamond as both Project Manager and C.D.M Coordinator. The Coordinator being a mandatory role under the Construction Design & Management ('CDM') Regulations.
As C.D.M Coordinator, Diamond were required (amongst other things) to work closely with the design team, client and on-site contractors in order to achieve a very high standard of safety management.
As Project Manager - as you would expect - Diamond undertook day-to-day project management, organised weekly update/coordination meetings with the main players, maintained the Project Plan and, naturally, kept the client up-to-date with progress. A major part being the co-ordination of the various contractors activities on-site, resolving any conflicting requirements between them, or between them and the site operations.
The Outcome.
The project was completed on-time, on-budget and with minimal disruption to the client's operational activity.
