The Safety Advisor Role
The Site
A major international logistics & distribution company was to convert an already-operational distribution warehouse; for use for the storage of products from a manufacturer of many of the best-known names in the household cleaning-products sector.
The site was to include both wide & narrow-aisle racking, caging and also high-specification sprinkler systems; because this was a designated 'COMAH' (Control of Major Accident Hazards) site, due to the hazardous nature of many of the products being stored there.
The Problem.
Whilst the project was to be managed by the client's in-house team, since the site was to remain operational during the work, they felt that there was a real need for someone to oversee the safety standards of the contractors, to ensure that their operational staff were not exposed to any risks arising from the work, and to resolve the inevitable conflicts between the needs of the contractors & their own operations team.
The Solution.
The clients appointed Diamond as Safety Advisor. Diamond maintained an on-site presence during the contractor's working hours, resolving safety issues and liaising closely with the site operations team to resolve conflicts of interest as they arose.
The Outcome.
The project was complete on-time, on-budget and with minimal interference with the site operational activity.
